Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals Defeat Gray Collegiate 6-2

The Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals secured a 6-2 victory over Gray Collegiate on Monday in a strong all-around team performance.

Blythewood got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning after Gray Collegiate committed an error, followed by a sacrifice fly from Amere Jefferson that brought in another run.

Gray Collegiate responded in the top of the third inning, tying the game at 2-2 after scoring on a wild pitch.

The Bengals regained control in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jacob Waters, Austin Swartz, Corbin Fulmer, and Fredy Layman each drew walks that resulted in runs, extending the lead and shifting momentum firmly in Blythewood’s favor.

Pierce O’Donnell earned the win for Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals, allowing just two hits and no runs over two innings while striking out five and walking one batter.

Jack Campbell started on the mound for Blythewood and delivered a solid outing, giving up two hits and two runs (none earned) across three innings while recording seven strikeouts and three walks.

For Gray Collegiate, Herndon started the game and surrendered two hits and two runs (none earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking one.

Fredy Layman provided key production in the middle of the lineup, leading the Bengals with two RBIs while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Layman and Landon Gilchrist each recorded one hit for Blythewood.

Austin Swartz showed patience at the plate with two walks, contributing to the Bengals’ disciplined offensive approach. Overall, Blythewood drew eight walks in the game.

Defensively, the Bengals played a flawless game without committing a single error. Will Corn led the team defensively with 11 chances in the field.

Herndon paced Gray Collegiate offensively with two hits in three at-bats from the leadoff position.

Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals will return home on Friday to face the A.C. Flora Junior Varsity Falcons in their next matchup.
