The Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals used a dominant second inning to secure a convincing 12-1 win over the Westwood Junior Varsity Redhawks on Wednesday at Blythewood High School Stadium.
Blythewood exploded for eight runs in the second inning to take control of the game. Stephen Mixon started the rally with an RBI single, followed by a two-run single from Landon Gilchrist. Corbin Fulmer later drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run, while Fredy Layman added a two-run single. Mixon and Bryson Franklin each drew walks later in the inning to force in additional runs.
Westwood got on the scoreboard first in the top of the opening inning when Jeremiah Johnson delivered an RBI single.
The Bengals extended their lead again in the bottom of the third inning. Fulmer drew another bases-loaded walk to score a run, and Rylan Hair followed with a three-run single to further widen the gap.
Stephen Mixon earned the win for Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals after an impressive outing on the mound. The right-handed pitcher allowed just three hits and one run over three and two-thirds innings while striking out nine batters and walking two.
Cameron Skinner started for Westwood Junior Varsity Redhawks and surrendered two hits and six runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking six.
Jacob Waters provided strong relief pitching for Blythewood, throwing one and one-third scoreless innings without allowing a hit while striking out two batters.
Offensively, Fredy Layman, Rylan Hair, Stephen Mixon, Pierce O’Donnell, Landon Gilchrist, and Jacob Waters each recorded one hit for the Bengals. Layman, Hair, Mixon, and Gilchrist each drove in two runs during the game.
Blythewood also showed patience at the plate, drawing 12 walks overall. Bryson Franklin, Gilchrist, and Fulmer each led the team with two walks.
For Westwood, Jeremiah Johnson went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Achilles Davis recorded two hits in three at-bats.
Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals will next travel to face the A.C. Flora Junior Varsity Falcons on Saturday.
