Corbin Fulmer showcased outstanding plate discipline on Monday, drawing three walks and helping lead the Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals to a commanding 25-0 victory over the Westwood Junior Varsity Redhawks.
The Bengals delivered an explosive offensive performance, highlighted by a massive 13-run fifth inning. During the inning, Fredy Layman singled to drive in two runs, Pierce O’Donnell added an RBI single, and Jack Campbell contributed two separate RBI singles. Stephen Mixon and Landon Gilchrist were both hit by pitches with the bases loaded, bringing in runs, while Bryson Franklin, Amere Jefferson, and Fulmer each added RBI hits. The inning also included a walk by Layman that forced in a run and an additional run scored on an error.
Blythewood got on the board early in the first inning after Amere Jefferson hit a sacrifice fly to bring in a run, followed by a Westwood error that allowed two more runs to score.
The Bengals continued to build momentum in the second inning when Landon Gilchrist hit a sacrifice fly and another Westwood error added an additional run.
Blythewood extended its lead again in the third inning after Jack Campbell and Stephen Mixon each drew bases-loaded walks, while Bryson Franklin grounded out to drive in another run.
Pierce O’Donnell earned the win for Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals after allowing just two hits and no runs across three innings while striking out six batters and walking two.
Phillip started on the mound for Westwood Junior Varsity Redhawks and allowed one hit and five runs (two earned) over two innings while striking out three and walking three. Will Corn and Bryson Franklin each pitched scoreless relief innings for Blythewood.
The Bengals collected 10 hits in the game, with Jack Campbell, Amere Jefferson, and Landon Gilchrist recording two hits each. Campbell and Fulmer each drove in three runs to lead the offensive attack.
Fulmer also led the team with three walks, contributing to Blythewood’s patient approach at the plate as the team drew a total of 16 walks in the game.
On the base paths, Blythewood was aggressive throughout the matchup. Austin Swartz and Fulmer each stole multiple bases, while the team finished with an impressive 12 stolen bases overall.
Defensively, the Bengals played a flawless game without committing a single error. Will Corn led the team with six defensive chances.
For Westwood, Cameron Skinner and Nelson each recorded one hit.
Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals will host the Westwood Junior Varsity Redhawks again on Wednesday in their next matchup.
