Fredy Layman collected three hits in three at bats, as Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals defeated West Florence Junior Varsity Knights 9-2 on Monday at Blythewood High School Stadium. Layman doubled in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the third inning.
Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Corbin Fulmer drew a walk, scoring one run, Pierce O’Donnell singled, scoring one run, and Will Corn singled, scoring two runs.
Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals added one run in the third. West Florence Junior Varsity Knights committed an error, making the score 5-0.
Jack Campbell earned the win for Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals. The starter gave up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out six and walking none. Sawyer Hinson began the game for West Florence Junior Varsity Knights. The starter surrendered seven hits and seven runs (six earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking three. Corn tossed two innings of no-run ball for Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking one.
Corn, O’Donnell, Jacob Waters, and Zach Hardy each drove in one run for Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals. Amere Jefferson stole two bases. Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Corn had the most chances in the field with 10.
North Willis led West Florence Junior Varsity Knights with one run batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-3 on the day.
