The Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals delivered an explosive offensive performance on Wednesday, defeating the Spring Valley Junior Varsity Vikings 18-0 at Spring Valley High School.
Blythewood took complete control of the game early, scoring 14 runs in the first inning. Fredy Layman opened the scoring with an RBI single, while Will Corn added an RBI groundout. Corbin Fulmer later drew a bases-loaded walk, and William Gilchrist followed with a two-run single.
Landon Gilchrist and Amere Jefferson each drew RBI walks, while a Spring Valley error allowed three additional runs to score. Pierce O’Donnell added a two-run double, and Fulmer capped off the inning with a two-run double of his own.
The Bengals continued to extend their lead in the second inning after another Spring Valley error brought in a run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Zach Hardy that scored an additional run.
Blythewood added two more runs in the third inning after another Vikings error and an RBI single to center field by Will Corn.
Austin Swartz earned the win for Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals after allowing just one hit and no runs over three innings while striking out four and walking one.
Easton Gregorich started on the mound for Spring Valley Junior Varsity Vikings and allowed three hits and eight runs over two-thirds of an inning while striking out one and walking four.
Offensively, Will Corn, Fredy Layman, Stephen Mixon, William Gilchrist, Amere Jefferson, Pierce O’Donnell, Landon Gilchrist, and Corbin Fulmer each recorded one hit for Blythewood.
Corn, Layman, William Gilchrist, O’Donnell, and Fulmer each drove in two runs during the game.
The Bengals also showed patience at the plate, drawing nine walks overall. Bryson Franklin, Jefferson, O’Donnell, and Gilchrist each recorded two walks.
Defensively, Blythewood played a flawless game without committing an error, with Corn leading the team with four defensive chances.
For Spring Valley, Kissiah recorded the team’s lone hit, going 1-for-1 at the plate.
Blythewood Junior Varsity Bengals will travel to face the Spring Valley Junior Varsity Vikings again in their next matchup on Wednesday.
